At the hui, trustees will provide an update of the previous years activities, including:
Ngawha Power Station Expansion
On March 18 2015, the Trust filed a submission in opposition to the Ngawha Power Station expansion consent applications. On 13 August 2015, the Trust participated in the hearing before a Hearings Committee constituted under the Resource Management Act and made legal, cultural and scientific submissions at that hearing objecting to Top Energy’s proposals. Consents were granted on 15 September 2015. The Trust lodged an appeal against the granting of those consents on 6 October 2015.
In summary, our participation has improved the conditions on which the consent was granted. Our participation has also enabled us to become fully informed about the proposed expansion and its potential effects on the pools and resource through the work that has been undertaken (cultural assessment, resource management expertise with Chapman Tripp and with our scientist expert).
The purpose of our participation is ensure the quality of the consent conditions and fulfill our role to protect the springs.
Attached are the Trust's legal submissions and Amokura's submission.
